The Cravats and Paul Hartnoll - SEANCE 26 February 07

The Cravats and Paul Hartnoll

In 1985 seminal art, jazz – punk band and John Peel favourites, The Cravats, put down their instruments after critically acclaimed LP’s for Small Wonder and Crass Records, five Peel Sessions and two tours of Europe and went to play in the garden.

Fast forward to Brighton many years later where Orbital mainman Paul Hartnoll bumped into Cravats mainmen, The Shend & RR Dallaway. After much mutual admiration for each others past works, Paul carves out a new tune with The Cravats, Séance.

Apart from this collaboration being the first new work from The Cravats in over 2 decades, it is also Paul’s first single release since Orbital passed away.

The result is nothing less than a mighty Post-Punk/Rave sledgehammer of a cut that boasts a hook of mighty proportions. On this remix Paul gives the cut a prime Orbital’esque makeover that makes this a potential crossover dancefloor track of the year. Like a liaison between Joy Division and Jello Biafra at the rave this is the best meeting of minds since Leftfield and Lydon’s “Open Up”.
